Organisational setting
The post of Senior Agent – Lawyer – Data Protection Function is located within the Data Protection Function.
The Data Protection Function (DPF) of Europol provides objective assurance and consultation activities designed to add value and improve data processing operations at Europol.
Under Europol’s organisational structure, the Data Protection Function is an independent function appointed by and accountable to the Management Board. The Data Protection Function’s main task is to ensure lawfulness and compliance with Europol’s legal framework as far as data protection is concerned.
Purpose of the post
The holder of the position supports the day-to-day work of the Data Protection Function by providing data protection related best practice, guidance and advice as well as by assisting the Data Protection Officer in ensuring the compliance of Europol with applicable data protection provisions.
This role may also be performed in the framework of projects funded by external assigned revenue.
Reporting lines
The incumbent reports to the Head of the Data Protection Function.

FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES
- The incumbent carries out the following main functions and duties:
- Contribute to the development of good practice relating to the protection and processing of operational information and personal data of staff members;
- Prepare policy papers and reports in the area of competence;
- Undertake compliance reviews related to processing of personal data both, in technical and in legal terms;
- Support the Data Protection Officer in the liaison with the European Data Protection Supervisor (EDPS) regarding the coordination of inspections;
- Support Europol in the establishment of Data Protection Impact Assessments;
- Facilitate the consultation process with the EDPS by communicating requests for additional information by the EDPS to Europol and by assisting Europol in its response;
- Support colleagues in relation to questions on maintaining records of processing operations;
- Advise on the processing of special categories of personal data and of different categories of data subjects;
- Assist with the drafting and verification of data protection notifications;
- Provide information sessions to staff and liaison officers entrusted with the processing of Europol information;
- Performing any other tasks assigned by the Head of the Data Protection Function.
- The functions and duties may also be associated with a project funded by external assigned revenue. In the case of a project funded by external assigned revenue, the duties would be of a limited duration in time.
REQUIREMENTS – ELIGIBILITY AND SELECTION CRITERIA
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
a. Candidates must
• Be a national of one of the Member States of the European Union and enjoy full rights as a citizen;
• Have fulfilled any obligations imposed by the applicable laws on military service;
• Produce appropriate character references as to his or her suitability for the performance of the duties;
• Be physically fit to perform the duties pertaining to the position (prior to appointment the successful candidate will be medically examined by one of the institution’s medical officers in order that the institution may be satisfied that the candidate fulfils the requirements of Article 12(2)(d) of the Conditions of Employment of Other Servants of the European Union (CEOS);
• Produce evidence of a thorough knowledge of one of the languages of the Union and a satisfactory knowledge of another language of the Union to the extent necessary for the performance of the duties.
b. Candidates must have
• A level of education which corresponds to completed university studies attested by a diploma when the normal period of university education is 3 years or more.

• Professional training of an equivalent level, and after having completed the training, at least the number of years of relevant professional experience as indicated below:
