The European Investment Fund (EIF), is seeking to recruit for its Risk Management Department (RM) – Corporate Risk Management Division at its headquarters in Luxembourg, a Mandate Risk Management – Senior Officer/Principal (depending on experience).This is a full-time position requiring occasional travel at grade 6/5.
Appointment will be made on the basis of a fixed term contract of three (3) years.
The initial term of this contract will be three (3) years. The EIF offers fixed-term contracts of up to a maximum of six (6) years, with a possibility of a conversion to a permanent contract, subject to business needs, organisational requirements and individual performance.
Panel interviews via videoconference are anticipated for beginning of January 2023
Purpose
You will join a strategically important team responsible for the risk management of EIF’s programmes with its mandators, including the EIB, the European Commission, some National Promotional Institutions (NPIs) and private investors. You will also contribute to the assessment and monitoring of non-financial risk elements related to those mandates, including climate risk, ESG and policy angle.
The work involves broad exposure to EIF’s activities, including the contribution to product design for debt and equity initiatives across a wide range of themes/sectors (e.g. digital, climate, growth finance, inclusive finance and impact investing). You will also contribute to the implementation of the EIB Group climate bank road map and the non-financial reporting (example: Sustainability report, TCFD report).
Operating network
You will report to the Head of the Mandate Risk Management Unit and interact with all EIF RM team members, EIF staff and EIB colleagues.
While you will functionally report the Head of the Mandate Risk Management Unit, you will have the opportunity to be a key contributor on projects also from the other teams within the EIF. One of the key beliefs of the team is that their members should have the opportunity to be exposed a variety of topics and work in different groups. As such the team works in a horizonal manner and without strict hierarchical structure. You will work in close cooperation with colleagues from other teams, within EIF and EIB.
Main responsibilities
You will be part of a team responsible for the second line of defense for the Mandates. This includes the ex-ante risk analysis of new or significantly amended mandates as well as the on-going risk monitoring of existing mandates.
You are expected to have good knowledge of current market trends and evolutions, particularly in relation to Climate Change and ESG aspects, strong attention to detail, agility, dynamism and passion about business matters.
Accountabilities
S/he will ensure the adequate and timely risk management of the Mandates delegated to EIF. This includes but is not exclusive to:
- Co-ordinate and centralise specific mandate risk assessments in terms of financial (market, liquidity, credit risks) and non-financial (reputation, policy, regulatory risks) aspects;
- Participate in the consolidation of a robust risk management process considering new developments related to climate change, SDGs and ESG;
- Advise on risk management topics in working groups on new mandates and product design (including structuring, governance, application of relevant policies) and implementation;
- On the basis of the policies, interests and expectations set by Mandators, contribute to the Mandate surveillance process by developing and producing risk reports.
Qualifications
- University degree preferably at postgraduate level in either Business Administration, Finance, Economics, or Law; Professional qualifications or certifications (such as FRM, PRM, CFA or ACT, PRMIA or GARP) for risk management or financial structuring would be considered an advantage;
- At least five (5) years of post-graduation (after having obtained your initial university diploma) relevant professional experience at the same level of responsibilities in risk management function within banking/finance sector;
- Proven track record in product design, structuring and risk reporting;
- Good understanding of the EIF’s mission and activities (including mandate-related activities);
- Good knowledge of policies and risk matters related to ESG, SDG and/or Climate Change
- Good understanding of banking/insurance and financial products – particularly those used at EIF (portfolio guarantees, securitisations, private equity and structured finance);
- Any – or combination – of the following would be considered an advantage:
- Exposure to Fund–of-Funds activities, Venture Capital and Guarantees;
- Experience in financial analysis and interpretation of financial and legal documentation;
- Good knowledge of EIF standard IT tools e.g., eFront, Business Object, Tableau;
- Excellent knowledge of English. Knowledge of other EU languages would be an advantage;
