The European Commission is strengthening its team to implement the Digital Services Act and create a safer and more transparent online space.

Are you a tech expert or data scientist passionate about social media algorithms? Or a lawyer interested in the online economy, wanting to make a difference? Or an economist, political or social scientist who has thought deeply about how online platforms are reshaping our world?

New European rules for online platforms, known as the Digital Services Act (DSA), entered into force in November 2022. They clarify the accountability of online platforms regarding illegal and harmful content. They also introduce rules defining the responsibility of online platforms such as social media services, search engines, or online marketplaces for their platform’s compliance with national and Union law. With these rules, the EU is leading an unprecedented effort to create a safer and more open online space. The European Commission holds new and unique regulatory powers to supervise the largest online platforms operating in the European market, i.e. “Very Large Online Platforms” (VLOPs) and “Very Large Online Search Engines” (VLOSEs) with more than 45 million users in the EU. Such companies will be designated by the Commission once they publish their user numbers (see Press Release).

The European Commission is looking for experienced specialists who will help enforce these new rules.

To effectively carry out these tasks, the Directorate-General for Communications Networks, Content and Technology (DG CONNECT) is building a multi-disciplinary enforcement team and recruiting new colleagues, including European Commission officials, national seconded experts and highly motivated contract agents.

The team will consist of experts with a wide array of profiles: legal officers, data scientists / technology specialists, economists and policy officers.

The team will supervise the systems put in place by VLOPs and VLOSEs to tackle illegal content, fight disinformation, uphold user rights, and protect user’s health and wellbeing. It will cooperate closely with the newly created European Centre for Algorithmic Transparency, established at the Commission’s Joint Research Centre, which is also looking for new experts.

Members of this team will have a unique opportunity to ensure that digital economy and the online platforms operate in a fair and transparent way in the EU. Are you interested to work in this exciting new area? Do you want to build a safer, transparent and accountable online space?

Apply today! Details and conditions are available in the official call notices:

  • the  Contractual Agents call (.pdf) and annex ( in word editable format: .docx)
  • for Seconded National Experts – see with your HR service in your Member State
  • for Commission officials – see the Commission’s internal system.

Deadline

19 December 2022
