Last week, the European Commission Representation in Spain organised a tree planting activity in the framework of the #ForOurPlanet Campaign. The action took place in the city of Granada, in the south of the country, in a carbon dioxide sink on the outskirts of the city, at the foot of the Sierra Nevada mountain range.
The planting was carried out in collaboration with the Huella Verde de Granada association, an organisation whose mission is to create a greener and cleaner city for all its inhabitants, as well as to raise awareness among the people of Granada of the importance of the natural environment in which they live. Technicians from this organisation taught a group of 3rd year ESO students from the IES Severo Ochoa Secondary School in Granada how to plant different types of trees in the aforementioned sinkhole. Throughout the morning, these students, together with the staff of the Representation, carried out reforestation and planting activities of different types of tree species. They also created seed bombs of different plants and herbs, which they later dropped into the forest of the sinkhole. These seed bombs will later become vegetation that will contribute to improving the air quality of the Granada environment.
