Model European Union 2022 in South Korea concludes with selection of top performing students

The Delegation of the European Union (EU) to the Republic of Korea successfully hosted the Model European Union (MEU) 2022, a simulation of the Council of the European Union. The event was hosted by the Hankuk University of Foreign Studies on 26 and 27 May 2022.

During the MEU simulation, 35 talented students from 17 universities across South Korea played the roles of the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, foreign affairs ministers of the 27 Member States, European Commission representative, Secretariat of the Council as well as journalists. This year, the topic of the debate was cybersecurity and the need to build collective capabilities and work with partners around the world to ensure international security and stability in the cyberspace. The students discussed potential partnerships to ensure the most effective response to cyber threats using the collective resources and expertise available in each country.

The three best performing students received funding for participating in a two-week summer school in European in 2022. The winners are Suhyun Kim, Hyeonwoo Son and Hyeonbeom Lim. Special mention went to Minsoo Ghang, who was selected by the Hankuk University of Foreign Studies, for the inputs provided during the debates.

The EU Ambassador to the Republic of Korea, H.E. Maria Castillo Fernandez, applauded the outstanding performance of the MEU2022 students. “This simulation has been a unique opportunity for students to connect with Europe, how Europe is functioning and how decisions are made. Bringing national interests on a European level and working on building partnerships.” said the Ambassador.
