The Almeria entrepreneur has received this recognition for his relevant merits related to his contribution to the economic and social development, as well as for his contribution to business innovation in the province of Almeria and to this university.
On Friday, June 3, the University of Almeria welcomed a new member of its Senate: the businessman Francisco Martínez-Cosentino Justo was invested in a solemn ceremony as Doctor Honoris Causa, under the patronage of Antonio Garrigues Walker, president of the Garrigues Foundation.
The University Senate of Universidad Almería, in an ordinary session held on October 20, 2020, unanimously approved unanimously conferring the degree of Doctor Honoris Causa on Francisco Martínez-Cosentino Justo for his relevant merits related to his contribution to economic and social development, as well as for his contribution to business innovation in the province of Almería and to this university.
Antonio Garrigues, in his laudatio, said that ” in these times we cannot surround ourselves with pessimists, we need people with strength and people who see the world with greatness like Francisco Martínez-Cosentino”.
Francisco Martínez-Consentino, thanked the University and the whole Almeria society for the distinctions he receives, in this case the degree of Doctor Honoris Causa by the UAL. These awards encourage him to “continue working for my homeland, my people”.
The UAL will contribute to the development of TARSIS, the next generation instrument for the Calar Alto 3.5 metre telescope.
The new Doctor Honoris Causa has exposed in his investiture speech the importance of effort and nonconformism when facing life, both personally and in the workplace. As well as the important role of the University of Almeria in the training of future generations. A training that, he said, must be completed with DUAL training, with which UAL and companies join hands to provide students with the necessary skills to exercise their professional activities, facilitate their employability and promote their entrepreneurship.
With the auditorium full of guests and after being invested doctor, the rector has welcomed him to the Senate and stressed that both his human and professional qualities make him an example “in which we all look”, but especially the students of the UAL. “You have shown that business models inspired by sustainability and social justice are also a source of wealth and, by extension, build the future. A future in which, on the other hand, much will also have to say our students, our researchers and professionals of today and tomorrow, who today ‘dream’ and tomorrow ‘act’ following your example, because your uplifting testimony has made you a reference for future generations.”
In his speech, the Chancellor thanked Martínez-Cosentino for the contributions he has made to enrich the province of Almería “economically, socially and culturally, broadening its horizons thanks to his permanent contributions in the field of business innovation. Contributions that have also resulted in important collaborations with this University”.
