The Public Authorities Board of the Chips Joint Undertaking selected the consortia that will implement four pilot lines for semiconductor technology. It is a major step in the implementation of the European Chips Act, in particular for its Chips for Europe Initiative.
These pilot lines are pioneering, state-of-the-art facilities to test, experiment, and validate semiconductor technologies and system design concepts, and could form the basis for Europe’s next-generation semiconductor production. They will be accessible to academia, industry, and research institutions from all over the EU.
Up to €1.67 billion of EU funding from the Digital Europe Programme and Horizon Europe will go towards funding these advanced pilot lines, encompassing equipment procurement, setup, integration, process development, and operational activities. This will be matched with investments from Member States, to reach a total of €3.3 billion of commitments.
The selected hosting consortia include world-leading organisations from Member States including Belgium, Germany, Ireland, Greece, Spain, France, Italy, Austria, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Finland, and Sweden.
