European Union Election Experts Mission to accompany elections in Ecuador

The European Union in Ecuador reaffirms that the exercise of democracy is one of its priority pillars and will remain at Ecuador’s side to promote trust and dialogue in order to provide stability and prosperity to all Ecuadorians.

A mission of European Union (EU) Electoral Experts will accompany the election process in Ecuador scheduled for August 2023. This deployment comes in response to the invitation of the National Electoral Council and as a sign of the EU’s commitment to support the organisation of pluralistic, inclusive and transparent elections.

The mission will be composed of three European experts who will analyse all key aspects of the elections, including the electoral administration, the legal framework, the political context, as well as the media and social networks. The end result will be a comprehensive analytical report on the elections, which will also include recommendations to be offered to the country’s authorities for the improvement of the process.
