The European Commission (EC) is currently looking for specialists with professional experience in the field of chemicals. Recruited policy officers (grade AD 6) will work mainly at the EC’s Directorate-General for Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs (DG GROW) and the Directorate-General for Environment (DG ENV).
Main tasks
Your main tasks will be to develop, manage and implement policy and legislation in the area of chemicals, carry out regulatory tasks in the various fields of chemicals, including following human health and environmental risk assessments and socio-economic analyses, and to monitor the enforcement of legislation. You will also prepare and participate in Member State meetings and negotiations, monitor trends and trade agreements, and be involved in negotiations in the area of chemicals policy, including international negotiations.
Requirements
To apply, you need to be an EU citizen with a knowledge of at least 2 EU languages: thorough knowledge of Language 1 (one of the 24 EU official languages) and satisfactory knowledge of Language 2 (English or French).
You also need a university degree of at least 4 years in one of the following subject areas: chemistry, chemical engineering, mineralogy, mining, toxicology, ecotoxicology, biology, environmental studies, human or veterinary medicine, pharmacology, or in another subject directly relevant to the nature of the duties, followed by at least 3 years’ professional experience in the field of chemicals. You can also apply if you have a university degree of at least 3 years in the above-mentioned spheres followed by at least 4 years of professional experience in the field of chemicals.
