After a selection process, Torrecárdenas University Hospital will participate in the implementation of the FOCUS program. The FOCUS program has been underway since 2010 and it aims to provide early diagnosis of infections such as HIV and Hepatitis C in hospitals and health centers. This is possible thanks to the agreement between the Andalusian Health Service (SAS) and Gilead Sciences.
One of the doctors of the Hepatology Service of the province’s reference hospital, Marta Casado, states that one of the project’s objectives is to detect the highest possible number of infected people by hepatitis C. This is a fundamental program since it means a significant progress at hospital level. Moreover, it will help detect the virus in patients who do not know that they have the virus. Therefore, ensuring a better prognosis and providing the appropriate treatment.
The Torrecárdenas Hospital has been the only one chosen for this program within Andalusia, being, precisely, the first one to carry out an innovative process with the purpose of ending this viral infection. To this end, the recommendations mentioned by the World Health Organization will be followed.
