The World Health Organization has consistently stated that the most effective way to save lives is to “break the chains of transmission” by testing and isolating those infected: “Test, test, test”.
To achieve this goal, the laboratories of the 17 Andalusian hospitals, as well as the different Andalusian universities and research centres, are collaborating intensively to curb as soon as possible the effects of this terrible pandemic.
UAL and Torrecárdenas Hospital against Covid-19
The Hospital Torrecárdenas and the University of Almeria are working together on the test analysis. Currently, about 100 samples are being analyzed daily. However, the Almerian hospital is technically capable of reaching up to 1,000 samples per day, if necessary.
Experienced researchers from the University of Almeria collaborate in a supportive way:
According to the Vice-Rector for Research and Innovation, Diego Luis Valera, a group of volunteer researchers who are experts in Molecular Biology are carrying out one of the most interesting and productive collaborations with the Torrecárdenas University Hospital. Thanks to this collaboration, it will be possible to increase the number of tests on covid 19.

But this is not the first initiative in which the University of Almeria has participated since the beginning of the crisis. The UAL and numerous other volunteers from Almeria, owners of 3D printers, manufactured masks for healthcare professionals throughout Spain to help them with their difficult task of dealing with the COVID-19.
