Diego Luis Valera, Vice-rector of Research and Innovation at the University of Almeria, informs us that since last Friday a group of “makers” are working intensively in Almeria on the 3D printing of screens for facial protection against COVID-19.
The group has been joined by volunteers with their own printers and there are currently 72 people working. So far we have printed 732 screens, having received 1 728 requests, mainly from hospitals and residences.
Support from the University of Almeria to the health authorities
The University of Almeria has already made available to the health authorities all its PCR equipment for the detection of COVID-19.
Now, we support the manufacture of personal protection equipment; we have made available and fully working, 10 printers, we also provide the necessary accessories (acetates, printing filaments, rubbers, etc.) to support the group of volunteers. In addition, we are collaborating in all the necessary organization and logistics.
This very morning, protective equipment was delivered to the Torrecárdenas and Poniente Hospitals.
