On May 9, 2021, the European Committee of the Regions (CoR) and other key players gave regional and local leaders the opportunity to contribute to the “Conference on the Future of Europe” by joining the conference. This decision, in addition to involving local and regional correspondents not only in the Conference on the Future of Europe, allows them to work closely with the European Committee of the Regions in holding policy debates in their local and regional assemblies, disseminating information to citizens and organizing local dialogues.
The Committee insists on the benefit of participating in ensuring a future of the EU built by and for our citizens and European municipalities. If each correspondent listens to its citizens, the proposals can be presented at the Conference at the international level.
Among the various advantages to be gained from this common input, the CoR highlights the following:
- Sharing of citizens’ opinions.
- The organization of local dialogues with citizens.
- Participation in the EU network of local and regional correspondents.
- Holding political debates in the local or regional assembly.
- Building a common vision of the EU.
The initiative offers not only direct contact, but also other opportunities such as supporting the media, collecting citizens’ opinions for the Conference and helping to organize local dialogues.
