In the framework of this visit, the Commissioner will participate in the Ibero-American Forum of Government Consumer Protection Agencies, organised by the Spanish Presidency of the Council, where he will have the opportunity to give a speech on the importance of strengthened multilateral cooperation on consumer protection at global level.
During the Forum, consumer protection authorities from EU and Latin American countries will address consumer vulnerability in digital environments, effective surveillance of online markets and the environmental impact of e-commerce. Following the discussions, the Forum members will sign a joint declaration.
As part of this visit, Commissioner Reynders will meet with the Secretary of State for the European Union, Pascual Navarro Ríos, to discuss issues related to the rule of law and Russia’s aggression against Ukraine. The Commissioner will also meet with former Italian Prime Minister Enrico Letta, recently appointed by the European Council to prepare a report on the future of the single market, to discuss the ‘consumer’ pillar of the single market.
