The EBA is an independent European Union Authority established on 1 January 2011 by Regulation (EU) No. 1093/2010 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 24 November 2010.
As a member of the Data Analytics, Reporting and Transparency (DART) Department and Statistics (STATS) Unit, the Statistician will report to the Head of STATS Unit. The Statistician will be working on the development and maintenance of the EBA’s databases of supervisory data as well as of risk assessment tools and dashboards. In addition, he/she will undertake empirical analyses on the EU banking sector, including stress testing.
Main responsibilities
• To contribute to the management of EBA’s database and registers, and to the implementation and testing of end-user ICT solutions;
• To improve the EBA’s data input to its risk assessment and dashboard;
• To participate in the preparation of reports with statistical analyses using state-of-the-art statistical techniques;
• To coordinate surveys and data collections, developing processes for checking the accuracy, consistency and comparability of the data;
• To support the EBA’s data hub role by designing and maintaining innovative ways of sharing confidential and non-confidential data with the EBA’s stakeholders;
• To contribute to the EBA’s other activities, including impact assessment, benchmarking of internal models and stress testing, monitoring of data regarding EU’s AML/CFT policies;
• To execute any other tasks as decided by and under the responsibility of the Director of DART Department and/or the Head of STATS Unit.

To be considered eligible, candidates must satisfy all the criteria listed below by the deadline for submitting

General
• Be a national of a Member State of the European Union3 or Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway;
• Be entitled to your full rights as a citizen;
• Have fulfilled any obligation imposed by applicable laws on military service;
• Have a thorough knowledge6 of English and a satisfactory knowledge of another official language of the European Union;
• Have the appropriate character references as to your suitability for the performance of your duties;
• Be physically fit to perform the duties linked to the post
In addition to the eligibility criteria above, the following selection criteria will be used. Candidates are required to clearly indicate in their CVs how they acquired the knowledge and experience allowing them to meet the selection criteria mentioned below and to give specific examples.
Essential technical competencies criteria (to be mainly assessed in the application):
• At least 1 year of fulltime professional experience in one or more of the following areas:
– Managing data collections, including data modelling and data management;
– Developing business intelligence and data visualisations tools;
– Supervision of financial institutions through the calculation and monitoring of risk indicators based on supervisory data.
• Experience in using one or more statistical software packages, such as Statistical Analysis Software (SAS), R or Stata, with a preference for SAS;
• Knowledge gained through professional experience or studies of one or more programming languages, such as Visual Basic for Applications (VBA), Python, or Matlab, with a preference for VBA.
