The members of each of the European Parliament’s standing committees and subcommittees for the tenth parliamentary term were announced on Friday.

The 60 Spanish MEPs will be divided between the 20 committees and four sub-committees. The election of the chairpersons and vice-chairpersons of each committee will take place at their respective constituent sessions next Tuesday in Brussels.

The decision announced to the plenary today includes the full members. MEPs can also act as substitutes on other committees, which gives them the right to attend meetings, speak and, in the absence of full members, take part in votes.

Rules on the composition of parliamentary committees

According to the EP’s Rules of Procedure (Rules 216 and 218), the composition of committees and subcommittees should reflect as far as possible the composition of the House as a whole.

The proportional distribution of seats among the political groups should not deviate from the nearest absolute number, and it is up to the Conference of Presidents (consisting of the President and leaders of the political groups) to resolve any disputes that may arise between groups over their representation.

The political groups and non-attached members decide internally on the distribution of their members among the various committees and subcommittees. No exchange of seats is allowed.
