The Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares, has held a meeting with the Deputy Secretary of State of the United States, Wendy Sherman, in which they discussed the crisis in Ukraine, the upcoming NATO summit in Madrid and bilateral relations between the two countries.
Spain and the United States held Monday for the first time a high-level bilateral seminar on cybersecurity at the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation. The seminar was inaugurated by the Deputy Secretary of State of the United States, Wendy Sherman, and the Secretary of State for Foreign and Global Affairs, Ángeles Moreno Bau.
In her first visit to Spain, the U.S. Deputy Secretary met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, José Manuel Albares, to discuss the crisis in Ukraine, the NATO summit to be held in Madrid next June and bilateral relations between the two countries. He also held a bilateral meeting with his Spanish counterpart, Ángeles Moreno Bau. In the current context, transatlantic unity is even more important to face the Russian aggression in Ukraine in all its aspects.
The day was attended by delegations made up of members of government, business and civil society from both countries. The meeting was an opportunity for the groups of American and Spanish experts to exchange relevant information and mutual experiences in matters related to cybersecurity.
During the seminar, they discussed in detail the respective national systems of resilience, protection of critical infrastructures, the fight against cyber-attacks and cyber incidents, as well as the repression of malicious and criminal uses of cyberspace. The participants also agreed to coordinate closely in the various multilateral forums on the governance of the use of telecommunication and information technologies, Internet networks and cyberspace as a global common good.
This seminar is a clear demonstration of the good coordination in this area between Spain and the United States, which has helped both parties to deepen their cooperation in the field of cybersecurity, a priority of Spanish foreign policy.
