The University of Cyprus invites applications for the vacancy of one (1) Postdoctoral Researcher full time position at the Archaeological Research Unit.

Duties of the position

Engagement in high-level research in GeoInformatics (Geographical Information Systems (GIS), Geophysical Prospection, Satellite Remote Sensing, Computational methods, Statistical analysis, Network Analysis) in Archaeological Research. • Support in the teaching process of the Graduate program of Digital Heritage and Landscape Archaeology (lectures, laboratories, practical training, etc.). • Writing of an article in a peer-review scientific journal in collaboration with the head professor of the Chair of Silvia Ioannou on Digital Humanities. • Participation in conferences and publication of relevant research results in collaboration with the head professor of the Chair of Silvia Ioannou on Digital Humanities and/or other members of the research team. • Writing of a research proposal in collaboration with the head professor of the Chair.

Required selection criteria

Candidates must have a PhD in one of the following or related fields: Landscape archaeology, geosciences (e.g. topography, geology, environment, etc.), natural sciences, computer sciences and computer Geoinformatics, all of which in close relation to archaeological applications. • The doctoral degree should come from a recognized higher education institution. • Expertise in the application of GIS (ArGIS Pro and its extensions). • Track record of publication, commensurate with career stage. • Candidates must possess excellent skills in their research field and in writing scientific papers and research proposals in the English language.

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS 2 • Proven research experience (at least 1-2 years) in the above fields through their participation in European or international research programs. • Programming skills.

Benefits 

The initial contract is for a period of 12 months for full-time employment (140 hours per month), with the possibility of renewal for 6 months or more. The monthly gross salary is € 2,400 (gross earnings, before taxes). Employee contributions to the various Governmental Funds will be deducted from this amount. The initial contract can start either on November 1st, 2024, or February 3 rdt , 2025.
