Starting on the next possible date our Department Data Services for the Social Sciences (DSS), Team Metadata Standards and Interoperability located in Cologne, is looking for a
PhD Candidate for Structured Data and Metadata
(Salary group 13 TV-L, working time in 75%, temporary for 4 years)
The department Data Services for the Social Sciences (DSS) offers sustainable infrastructures and services for data management, curation, and long-term preservation. Its mission is to foster FAIR data, open science, and reproducible research in the quantitative and computational social sciences. This includes archiving services with different curation levels for individual researchers, projects, and institutions, providing access to archived data, including access to sensitive data, the data registration agency da|ra, and data management trainings.
Your tasks will be:
- Develop improved metadata structures, documentation tools, and workflow within the department
- Check data and metadata quality of GESIS digital behavioral data for archiving, e.g. Access Panel
- Collaborate with international standardization initiatives, e.g. DDI Alliance
- Work on structured data produced by GESIS, including development of a knowledge graph
- Research in the fields of data science, structured data, research data management, open science, or knowledge graphs, including publications and workshops in this area
Your profile:
- Good university degree (Master or equivalent) in Social Science, Political Science, Computer Science, Data Science or comparable fields
- Experience with the management and processing of research data, preferably in the areas of data and metadata standards and/or knowledge graphs
- Experience in working with digital behavioral data, web data or social media data
- Good oral and written communication skills in English, knowledge of German desirable
