You will be part of the Public Communication Division of the Directorate-General for Communication. Our Directorate-General has approximately 250 employees who are responsible for communicating the ECB’s work and mission to the public and the media. We manage digital communications, media relations and public communications, and we also lead the ECB’s efforts to engage effectively with its staff. We are currently working to make the ECB more accessible to different audiences, including reaching out to the general public directly through the bank’s social media channels and websites.

Job Description
We offer three internships in the Division. As an intern, you will be assigned to one of the following teams, based on your interests and skills.
Position 1: Communications Intern in the Campaigns and Civil Society team
You will contribute to:
- Prepare scripts, suggest visuals, and assist during the filming of educational videos designed to enhance public understanding of key economic concepts;
- Partner and collaborate with financial influencers and content creators to increase awareness of the ECB’s activities;
- development of content for educational platforms;
- coordination with communication agencies;
- conduct research on target audiences and topics for specific initiatives;
- identify and analyse trends and developments in public debates on economic and monetary policy in the euro area.
Position 2: Communications Intern on the Visitor Center Team
You will contribute to:
- planning and coordinating visits to the ECB Visitors Centre and lectures by ECB experts;
- hosting groups of visitors from Europe and abroad and giving presentations on the work of the ECB, both on-site and virtually;
- Support the Visits, Research and Protocol team in organizing and implementing current and new outreach initiatives;
- assist with the remodeling of the Visitor Center;
- analyze issues raised by the public during visits and conferences.
Position 3: Communications intern in the Blog and Speakers team
You will contribute to:
- research policy-relevant topics and compile information for blog posts aimed at a variety of audiences, including experts, students, academics and any other readers who may be interested in economics or central banking;
- coordinate the production of visuals, infographics and images for the blog;
- establish links with communication agencies;
- coordinate training sessions for writers;
- respond to queries from various stakeholders at all levels of the ECB;
- Write content to support staff in their presentations.
All three positions offer you excellent opportunities to enter a dynamic environment and experience a wide range of communication activities at the ECB. They also offer you the chance to expand your communication skills and find creative solutions to problems. You will work closely with other teams in the Directorate General and other areas of the ECB, as well as with external stakeholders, including other EU institutions, universities and content creators. Requirements:
Basic:
- a bachelor’s degree or higher in communications, economics, international relations, business administration, political science, marketing, public relations, or a similar field;
- a deep interest in and understanding of the ECB’s mission, combined with the ability to describe that mission in clear and simple terms;
- experience in the production of communication materials, both written and visual;
- an ability to simplify complex concepts and texts;
- a good knowledge of the Microsoft Office package;
- an advanced command (C1) of English and an intermediate command (B1) of at least one other official EU language, in accordance with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
Desired:
- a competent command (C2) of French or German, in accordance with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

Benefits
Initial internship of six months, with possible extension up to a maximum of 12 months in total. The internship grant is €1,170 per month plus an accommodation allowance.
