To support the advancements in artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning and data science at The University of Southern Denmark, The Maersk Mc-Kinney Moller Institute invites candidates to apply for a Full Professor position to help them bring AI and machine learning into more diverse specialties.
Research and organizational environment
At the University of Southern Denmark (SDU), the successful candidate will join the research group of Applied AI & Data Science (AID) at The Maersk Mc-Kinney Moller Institute. In collaboration with several universities, healthcare sectors and industrial partners across Denmark and abroad, these research environments provide the foundation for accelerating the introduction and scaling of AI in different application domains as well as representing expertise in artificial intelligence, statistical machine learning, and data science by developing methods for data-driven solutions spanning across diverse specialties.
The successful candidate will be also affiliated with the Centre for Clinical Artificial Intelligence (CAI-X), a research and innovation unit established in 2020 as a collaboration between SDU and Odense University Hospital (OUH). The mission of CAI-X is to improve quality in healthcare through intelligent use of data and technology, and to ensure implementation of artificial intelligence solutions to benefit both patients and clinical staff. The center has established a framework that supports efficient and fruitful cooperation between clinical staff, researchers, engineers, and businesses – both nationally and internationally.
Qualifications
They invite motivated candidates with interest in artificial intelligence, machine learning and, in general, data science to apply. They will specifically look for candidates with a documented track-record in conducting relevant technical research in healthcare and green energy. The candidate must hold a Ph.D. degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related areas. This will enable the successful candidate to contribute to the development of a strong AI research environment at SDU. They believe in fostering a stimulating and inspiring environment, so the candidate qualified for the position will have the possibility of collaborating with researchers working with bio robotics, soft robotics, and autonomous systems, among others.
The successful applicant will join a dynamic research team and will be introduced to and included in teaching activities, research projects, fund raising activities and collaborations to explore the synergy between clinical and technical researchers, healthcare professionals and industrial partners.
Responsibilities
Your primary responsibility is to utilize and leverage the broad technical and clinical research and to support the long-term vision of AID being a world-class center in the field of applied AI and data science. This follows the research strategy, which functions as the backbone in one of the first centers of its kind dedicated to working with AI across a large variety of applications.
Your responsibilities will be to:
- Develop, implement, and execute clinical AI-focused projects in close collaborations with medical partners by bridging interests between the clinical practice and the technical research.
- Develop, implement, and execute industrial AI-focused projects in close collaborations with their industrial partners such as Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy, and Institute for Plasma Physics (IPP) at Max-Plank Inst.
- Give technical input and support for ongoing projects and establish new collaborations.
- Contribute to teaching activities at SDU, and outreach activities targeted younger research candidates.
- Contribute to fund raising efforts that take place at AID.
