The Youth Climate Lab is a peer-learning activity where young participants can interact with their peers, explore a real-world climate issue and propose practical solutions that can be implemented by stakeholders. In each edition, participants will have the opportunity to meet experts and gain an in-depth understanding of the topic under discussion.
This year, the focus will be on eco-anxiety and resilience in education. The aim is to develop an action pack comprising five practical recommendations and two interactive exercises. A template will be provided to confirmed participants to facilitate the development of the action pack.
As a participant, you will meet online for one week. Subsequently, two representatives will be chosen to present the action pack during the session dedicated to Climate Education Day 2026, which will take place on 22 October in Brussels.
- First session: Monday 13 July 2026, 17:00–18:30 CEST.
This session serves as an introduction to the topic. You will explore the concepts of eco-anxiety and resilience to gain a general understanding and a broader vocabulary.
- Second session: Tuesday 14 July 2026, 17:00 to 18:30 CEST.
This session focuses on how the mind works in relation to climate discourse. During this session, you will discover the triggers of eco-anxiety.
- Third session: Wednesday 15 July 2026, 17:00 to 18:30 CEST.
This session will focus on the role of the media, and in particular social media, in emotions related to climate change. To this end, a practical example will be used and critical discussion will be encouraged.
- Fourth session: Thursday 16 July 2026, 17:00 to 18:30 CEST.
This session will once again focus on the role of education in tackling eco-anxiety, with a particular focus on the tools, techniques and methods available to teachers, educators and pupils to develop emotional intelligence and foster resilience.
- Fifth session: Friday 17 July 2026, 17:00–18:30 CEST.
Following the discussion in the fourth session, a practical example will be presented in this session. Once the link between theory and practice has been established, two activities will be carried out to help participants develop their action plan.
- Sixth session: Saturday 18 July 2026, 9.30 am to 1.30 pm CEST.
During this final session, participants will come together to draw up the action plan. After being randomly divided into two groups, they will have two and a half hours to jointly develop recommendations and a learning scenario.
