On 31 August, the office of EURAXESS, the European initiative that promotes scientific cooperation between Europe and Latin America and the Caribbean, was officially launched in Colombia. The event took place at the Club Médico in the city of Bogotá and was attended by the Minister of Science, Innovation and Technology, Arturo Luna, the Ambassador of the European Union, Gilles Bertrand, and the regional coordinator of the EURAXESS office, Viktoria Bodnarova, as well as representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Member States of the European Union in Colombia, and several Colombian universities.
EURAXESS focuses on researcher mobility and career development, with the aim of strengthening scientific collaboration between Europe and the rest of the world. The initiative, present in 42 European countries and nine countries/regions of the world, will have two sites in Latin America: Rio de Janeiro in Brazil and Bogota in Colombia, after moving the latter from Mexico City this year.
EU Ambassador to Colombia, Gilles Bertrand, says: “Scientific cooperation is a powerful partnership to transform our societies through the exchange of people and ideas. We are delighted to have the EURAXESS regional office here in Colombia. It is another proof that the European Union wants to bet on Colombia’s talent and human potential”.

I am very happy to be able to contribute to strengthening the ties between Colombia and Europe in the field of scientific mobility and collaboration between research institutions. Being here will allow us to hold more information events, give more visibility and prominence to our partnership and establish closer contact with the Colombian research community.
Through its website, EURAXESS Latin America and the Caribbean provides information on job offers and funding opportunities. In addition, it reports on recent developments of interest to the research community and events accessible to all countries in the LAC region.
