The amended Measuring Instruments Directive comes into force today, ensuring accurate and reliable measurements at electric vehicle charging points and hydrogen refuelling stations.
The expanded directive sets out harmonised requirements to help manufacturers of this type of infrastructure achieve cost savings and roll out their networks more quickly, whilst empowering consumers by enabling more accurate and transparent billing.
As well as promoting clean mobility, the directive will also help the EU achieve other climate and energy targets. It introduces modern metering standards to promote smart electricity and gas meters, which in turn improves the integration of renewable energy and efficient energy management.
It also simplifies the certification of thermal energy meters. These harmonised standards therefore strengthen resilience in the changing energy landscape and support the functioning of the single market.
