The EU takes any unfair use of trade defence instruments against any sector of our economy with the utmost seriousness.
The abuse of trade defence for inappropriate reasons constitutes a clear violation of WTO rules. The Commission will therefore vigorously challenge at WTO level the announced imposition of provisional anti-dumping measures by China on imports of brandy from the EU.
In parallel, the Commission will carefully identify and assess all possibilities to provide adequate support to EU producers facing the negative impact of this unjustified decision by the Chinese Government.
We have the tools to address the detrimental impact that situations of market disruption or threat of market disruption can have on EU producers.
The Commission will always stand firmly and fearlessly on the side of EU producers, industry, open and fair EU trade and a global level playing field.
