The Commission has published three calls for proposals under the Creative Europe programme to support media freedom and pluralism, strengthen media resilience and contribute to improving media literacy.
The first call for proposals will fund pluralism and partnership actions to promote journalism associations for a total amount of EUR 10.5 million. The pluralism action targets organisations that can create and distribute funds to media in sectors of particular interest for democracy, while the partnership action aims to support proposals for cross-border media partnerships focusing on innovative business models and journalism projects across Europe.
3 million call for proposals aims to set up a rapid response system to systematically and comprehensively monitor violations of press and media freedom across the EU, as well as in the countries participating in the Creative Europe programme and in the candidate countries. The overall objective is that this monitoring will lead to the collection of better data and information on violations of media freedom and pluralism.
2.5 million is also earmarked for innovative cross-border projects that contribute to improving media literacy skills at European level and limiting the harmful effects of misinformation. The grants will promote the exchange of knowledge and the strengthening of media literacy practices across national, cultural and linguistic borders.
These Creative Europe calls for proposals are part of wider EU support for the media sector
