Department of Japanese Studies of Masaryk University in Czechia has an open position of Assistant or Assistant Professor with a focus on modern Japan. For the position of Assistant Professor, the prerequisite is a completed doctoral degree; for the position of Assistant, doctoral degree in an advanced stage of research is desirable.
Duties of the position
The appointee will be expected to participate in lectures or other forms of teaching in Bachelor’s degree programme of “Japanese studies”, supervise, consult or review Bachelor’s theses, participate in organization and administration of the department, specially in matters related to its pedagogical activity, participate in final state exam committee, participate in research, development and innovation activities such as independent research and development of research projects in the field of Japanese studies; publication of research results in peer-reviewed journals, scientific monographs or peer-reviewed procedings; active participation in domestic and foreign scientific conferences and professional meetings including the presentation of quality research results, submit grant projects and participate in ensuring operational and administrative activities related to the academic position according to instructions of the department head such as routine administrative tasks in the realization of individual courses, use of e-learning modules and communication with students via MU Information System.
Required selection criteria
Applicants should possess a Master’s degree and a completed Doctoral Degree in the field of Japanese Studies or related academic area, good track and publication record in the field of Japanese studies or related academic area, an abroad study, research, or teaching experience, C1 level in English, B2 level in Japanese; presentation, organizational and mentoring skills, willingness to learn and develop continously, ability to publish actively and independently, diligence, responsibility and reliability; and patience, consideration, empathy and friendliness when working and dealing with people. Professional focus on modern/contemporary Japan, experience with participation in international research projects, teaching or research experience and good knowledge of the Czech language will be considered advantages.
