Three European Commissioners are expected to visit Spain this week: Piotr Serafin, European Commissioner for Budget, Anti-Fraud and Public Administration; Costas Kadis, European Commissioner for Fisheries and Oceans; and Apostolos Tzitzikóstas, European Commissioner for Sustainable Transport and Tourism.
European Commissioner Serafin travels to Spain today, Monday 28 April, and Tuesday 29 April as part of his “Tour d’Europe”.
The European Commissioner for Budget, Anti-Fraud and Public Administration, Piotr Serafin, will travel to Spain this week as part of the “Tour d’Europe”. This initiative consists of a series of visits aimed at consulting all actors and stakeholders on the long-term European budget, in view of the preparation of the new budget proposal to be presented in June this year. During the trip, she will visit EU-funded projects and investments in the areas of inclusion and accessibility, access to employment and skills. Meetings with public authorities and encounters with beneficiaries of European funds will give the Commissioner the opportunity to see first-hand how EU-supported initiatives improve living conditions and contribute to regional development in Spain.
Today, Monday 28 April, the Commissioner will meet with María Jesús Montero, First Vice-President and Minister of Finance, and later with José Manuel Albares, Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, and the Joint Congress-Senate Commission for the European Union. In Madrid, the Commissioner will visit the “Por Talento Digital” centre of the ONCE Foundation – partially financed by NextGenerationEU funds and the European Social Fund Plus – an organisation that promotes access to employment, social inclusion and accessibility for people with disabilities in Spain.
On Tuesday 29 April, the Commissioner will conclude his visit at the University of Castilla-La Mancha, where he will see three rehabilitation projects funded by REACT-EU (such as “Nave 30”, an investment in educational infrastructures and supplies to improve learning conditions) and by the European Regional Development Fund (such as the Institute for Applied Research in the Aeronautics Industry and the School of Architecture).Together with the Second Vice-President of the Regional Government of Castilla-La Mancha, José Manuel Caballero Serrano, he will briefly address the media at the start of his visit to the former Arms Factory on the University of Castilla-La Mancha campus in Toledo (10:30 a.m.).
European Commissioner for Fisheries and Oceans Costas Kadis to visit Spain this week
This week, the European Commissioner for Fisheries and Oceans, Costas Kadis, will visit the Autonomous Community of Madrid, the Valencian Community and Catalonia.
Today, Monday 28 April in the afternoon, Commissioner Kadis will hold a meeting in Madrid with the Spanish Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, Luis Planas. They will discuss the priorities for the new Community cycle, the review of the Common Fisheries Policy, the European Maritime Fisheries and Aquaculture Fund (EMFF), fishing in the Mediterranean and the agreements in force. Afterwards, the Commissioner and the Minister will meet with representatives of the fisheries sector: the Spanish Fisheries Confederation (Cepesca), the National Federation of Fishermen (FNCP), the National Association of Women in Fisheries (Anmupesca) and the Spanish Aquaculture Business Association (Apromar).
On the morning of Tuesday 29th, Commissioner Kadis will visit the Fisheries Monitoring Centre (FMC), located in the facilities of the Sub-Directorate General for Control and Inspection and the Fight against Illegal Fishing of the General Secretariat for Fisheries (Madrid). This centre manages information and messaging pertaining to fishing vessels 24 hours a day, all year round.
After the visit, the Commissioner and Minister Planas will meet with the fisheries ministers of the autonomous communities. After the meeting, the two will hold a joint press conference in the assembly hall of the Ministry of Agriculture, Press and Food at 12.30 p.m., which can be followed on the ‘live broadcasts’ section of the Ministry’s website. On the afternoon of Wednesday 30 April, the Commissioner will visit the fishing port of Peñíscola, in the province of Castellón, during the fish auction and will meet with several federations of fishermen’s guilds, the Spanish Fisheries Confederation (CEPESCA) and the Mediterranean Advisory Council (MEDAC).
On Thursday 1 May, the Commissioner will visit the Blanes fishermen’s guild on the coast of Girona. He will also visit the LIFE Ecorest project, co-financed by the European LIFE programme, which aims to restore nearly 30,000 hectares of deep sea habitats in an area of high ecological value along the Catalan coastline, with the active participation of fishermen.
Apostolos Tzitzikóstas, European Commissioner for Sustainable Transport and Tourism, visits Madrid today
European Commissioner Tzitzikóstas visits Madrid today, Monday 28 April. During the course of the day, he will meet with the Spanish Minister for Transport and Sustainable Mobility, Óscar Puente, to discuss sustainable transport policies. Together with the minister, the commissioner will visit projects that have received European funding, such as the Adolfo Suárez-Madrid Barajas airport management centre, the Cercanías station where he will be shown a video on the high-speed train connection to the airport and the new bus station in the terminal.
In the afternoon, Commissioner Tzitzikóstas will appear before the Joint Committee for the European Union in the Spanish Congress of Deputies. Afterwards, he will hold a meeting with the President of the Autonomous Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, at the Real Casa de Correos, the seat of the regional government. Finally, the Commissioner will meet with the Spanish Minister for Industry and Tourism, Jordi Hereu i Boher, to discuss the efforts being made at national and European level to promote sustainable tourism.
