Spain continues to lead the Erasmus+ programme in receiving applications for mobility projects in 2025.
- 4,538 projects selected in the sectors of Higher Education, Vocational Education and Training, School Education and Adult Education.
- 153,717 awarded mobilities of students and staff of education and training organisations in Spain from all education sectors.
- 527 external experts selected to carry out the quality assessment of the Erasmus+ projects submitted.
In the framework of theEuropean Commission’ s “Union of Skills” initiative, which aims to strengthen the key competences and employability of European citizens by aligning education and training with the digital, ecological and demographic transitions, Erasmus+ has established itself as a strategic tool that not only fosters academic excellence, but also transforms the lives of those who participate in it.
Erasmus+ is more than an international educational experience: it is a journey that changes lives. Students, teachers and people of all ages have the opportunity to grow professionally and personally in an international environment, developing intercultural competences, language skills and a greater sense of belonging to Europe. These mobility experiences contribute to the development of active citizenship, ready to face the challenges of a global and interconnected world and are consolidated as a key element of the European Education Area.
To enhance them as an integral part of all educational and training pathways, the European Commission proposes, through the “Europe on the Move” initiative, to set ambitious targets for 2030, such as increasing the share of mobility experience to at least 23 % of higher education graduates, at least 20 % of students with fewer opportunities and at least 12 % of vocational education and training students.
SEPIE, as the National Agency for the Erasmus+ programme in Spain in the field of education and training, has recently decided on the provisional award of funds for Erasmus+ mobility projects for the 2025 call, funding a total of 4.538 Erasmus+ learningmobility projects , awarding 153,717 mobilities of students and teaching and administrative staff, with a financial envelope of 377.51 million euros (a 17.07% increase compared to the 2024 call), in the sectors of Higher Education, Vocational Education and Training, School Education and Adult Education.
In the current Erasmus+ 2025 call for proposals, Spain continues to be one of the leaders in the European Union in terms of receiving applications for learning mobility projects for individuals, with a total of 6,388 applications received from education and training organisations in our country, between accredited and non-accredited institutions, for all educational sectors, 9.12% more than in 2024.
In 2025, therefore, with an overall budget of around €5 billion approved by the European Commission in its annual work programme for the whole of Europe, the Erasmus+ programme continues to offer opportunities for study and traineeships abroad, apprenticeship training and staff mobility, as well as cross-border cooperation projects in different fields.
Thanks to the supported projects, teaching staff, administrative staff and students from all sectors and educational levels of Spanish education and training organisations will participate in mobilities to other European countries and to third countries not associated to the Programme in the rest of the world, which will result in the improvement of the educational quality of our institutions, of the professional training of our teaching staff and of the professional and personal opportunities of the individuals involved, thus of the society as a whole.
