The European Central Bank (ECB) offers full-time work placements in Frankfurt am Main (Germany) for those interested in monetary policy, economic and financial analysis, and the use of data and quantitative tools.
This opportunity is open to European Union citizens with a background in:
- Economics.
- Finance.
- Econometrics.
- Mathematics.
- Statistics.
- Data science.
- Social sciences or related fields.
We are looking for curious, analytical individuals with strong teamwork skills, who are interested in analysing complex information and contributing to the ECB’s mission.
Requirements:
- You must be a citizen of the European Union.
- A degree or higher qualification in a relevant field.
- Practical experience with at least one of the following languages or tools: MATLAB, Dynare, Python, R, Stata or SQL, demonstrated through a project.
- Experience working with economic, financial, business, transaction, survey or large datasets.
- A sound knowledge of economics relevant to one of the areas of work.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Excel, including data analysis, charts and pivot tables.
- English at C1 level and another official EU language at B1 level.
A Master’s degree, or being in the final stages of obtaining one, will be particularly valued, as will experience in econometrics, big data, Git, visualisation tools, research, machine learning or financial databases.
Intern’s responsibilities:
The successful candidate will be involved in tasks such as:
- Processing and analysing macroeconomic, microeconomic and financial data.
- Developing and automating workflows and data tools.
- Creating charts, visualisations and dashboards.
- Applying econometric and quantitative methods, such as DSGE, VAR, local projections and machine learning.
- Development and maintenance of models and analytical tools.
- Preparation of analyses for monetary policy reports and research papers.
- Collaboration with ECB economists on quantitative and analytical projects.
The placements will take place in one of the following two areas:
- Capital Markets and Financial Structure: analysis of financial markets, interest rates, bonds, equity markets and corporate finance.
- Monetary Policy Strategy: analysis of monetary policy stance, money markets, financial conditions, ECB communication and issues relating to the digital euro.
