The European Central Bank (ECB) is offering five internship opportunities in Frankfurt am Main, Germany, aimed at a wide range of profiles: from economics, finance and statistics to human resources, language technology and data.
All five opportunities share the following conditions:
- Location: Frankfurt am Main, Germany.
- Working hours: full-time.
- Stipend: €1,170 per month plus a housing allowance.
- Duration: between 3 and 6 months, with the possibility of extension up to a maximum of 12 months.
- Open to EU citizens who meet the requirements of the ECB’s traineeship programme.
- C1 level in English and B1 level in at least one other official EU language.
- We are looking for curious individuals with the ability to analyse complex information, work in a team, learn and thrive in a multicultural environment.
- The internship offers the opportunity to gain professional experience and participate in real ECB projects.
1. Internship in Statistics and Data Science
This placement takes place within the Directorate General for Statistics and involves the management and analysis of data and statistics used in the fields of monetary policy and banking supervision.
Requirements:
- Graduates in statistics, data science, economics, finance, mathematics, computer science, operational research or other related fields.
- Experience with tools or languages such as Python, R, SQL, MATLAB, SAS, Stata, Power BI or Tableau is required.
- Knowledge of financial and macroeconomic statistics, financial markets, banking supervision, artificial intelligence and machine learning is an advantage.
Role of the intern:
- Collect, validate, manage and analyse data.
- Work with large datasets and metadata.
- Participate in the production and publication of statistics.
- Develop data management tools and processes.
- Take part in projects relating to AI and digital transformation.

2. Training programme for a language technologist/terminologist.
This placement takes place within the Directorate-General for Communications, as part of the team specialising in language technology and terminology.
Role of the trainee:
- Test and customise computer-assisted translation tools.
- Maintain translation memories.
- Evaluate generative AI applications for linguistic tasks.
- Preparing bilingual data for machine translation.
- Research terminology and manage terminology databases.
- Produce documentation and user guides.
Requirements:
- Degree holders in language technology, terminology, translation, computational linguistics or related fields.
- Practical experience with tools such as RWS Trados, machine translation software and AI is required.

3. Internship in the Accounting Section
This opportunity is based in the Finance Directorate, within the Accounting Section.
Role of the intern:
- To participate in financial accounting processes.
- Work with accounts payable and receivable, fixed assets and month-end closings.
- Support the analysis and presentation of financial data.
- Take part in the optimisation and digitisation of processes.
- Contribute to the development of business solutions and automation.
Requirements:
- Degree in accounting, finance, business administration or other related fields.
- Knowledge of accounting or technology applied to financial accounting and advanced Excel skills are required.
- Knowledge of SAP, data analysis and programming – particularly Python – is an advantage. A2-level German will also be viewed favourably.

4. Internships and doctoral training at the Directorate-General for Macroprudential Policy and Financial Stability.
This placement takes place within the Directorate-General for Macroprudential Policy and Financial Stability and focuses on the analysis of financial regulation, financial stability, banking, capital markets, non-bank financial intermediation, crypto-assets and stablecoins.
Benefits:
There are two levels of stipend:
- €1,170 per month for candidates with a bachelor’s degree or higher qualification.
- €2,120 per month for those holding a master’s degree and having completed at least two years of doctoral studies.
Requirements:
- Graduates in finance, economics, statistics, mathematics, engineering, business administration, physics, computer science or related disciplines.
- Knowledge of econometrics, data analysis, programming and financial regulation is an advantage, as is experience with Python, R, SQL, MATLAB, Stata or EViews.
Role of the intern:
- To evaluate regulatory policies and their impact on financial stability and integration.
- Collect and analyse data for research projects.
- Contribute to publications, reports and presentations.
- Develop visualisation and programming tools.
- Support the preparation of European and international meetings.

5. Internship in data and communications within Human Resources
This opportunity is based in the talent acquisition team of the Directorate-General for Human Resources.
Role of the intern:
- To produce reports and data analyses.
- Carry out comparative studies to support recruitment processes.
- Present findings and conclusions to stakeholders.
- Participate in job fairs and outreach activities.
- Create employer branding materials.
Requirements:
- Degree holders in Human Resources, Communication, Business Administration, Law, Political Science, Economics, Psychology, Data Science or other related fields.
- Experience in data analysis and visualisation and in the use of a statistical programming language is required.
- Knowledge of R, Python and SQL is an advantage, as is experience in project or event management.
