The European External Action Service (EEAS) is the European Union’s diplomatic service. It assists the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy in implementing the Union’s Common Foreign and Security Policy.
Who can apply?
Internships are offered under four different pillars:
- A subsidised training programme for young graduates with less than one year’s professional experience.
- Unfunded compulsory placements for students already living and studying in the host country.
- Internships for students at national administration schools in Member States
- Internships for trainee civil servants in a Member State’s administration as part of their compulsory professional training.
Depending on the specific pillar, placements are open to EU citizens, citizens of candidate countries that have concluded EU accession negotiations, and nationals of the host country:
- For paid placements, applicants must have graduated from a university or equivalent higher education institution with at least a bachelor’s degree, whilst for compulsory unpaid placements, applicants must be third-, fourth- or fifth-year students at a university or other higher education institution.
- Candidates must be able to speak the working language of the EU Delegation;
- Applications will not be accepted from candidates who have already benefited from any form of training (paid or unpaid) or employment for more than 6 weeks at an EU institution, body, agency or office.
Conditions
- The duration of a traineeship ranges from 1 month (3 months for probationary officials) to 6 months;
- Except in the case of unsubsidised student placements, trainees receive at least 25% of the salary of Group I Local Staff.
