The University of Cologne is one of the largest and most research-intensive universities in Germany, offering a wide range of subjects. With its six faculties and its interfaculty centres, it offers a broad spectrum of scientific disciplines and internationally outstanding profile areas, supported by the administration with its services.
The group conducts research and teaching in the area of visualization and visual analytics. It covers research of novel visualization teachniques, interactive combination of machine learning and visualization as well as research of cognitive factors in visualization. The position is in one of the areas: visual analytics of networks, visual analytics of spatio-temporal data or cognitive aspects.
Your tasks
- research: depending on focus either development of novel visualization and visual analytics techiques or preparing and conducting user studies
- publication of results at international conferences and in journals
- teaching assistance (4 teaching units) – organiziation, concept and conduct of excercises, seminars and co-supervision of master/bachelor students
- support in group profile and growth
- support in organization and publicity of the group
- acquisition of research projects and initiation of cooperation and projects with partners
- co-organization of workshops and research events
Your profile
- PhD degree in visualization, visual analytics, HCI or similar
- Master degree in computer science, visual computing, HCI, mathematics, physics, or similar
- interest in research career
- very good programming skills (javascript, python, C++, or similar)
- experience in visualization, visual analytics, HC or data analysis and machine learning
- experience in teaching assistance
- research and publications at international venues
- experience in visualization-related research
- experience in interdisciplinary research is of advantage
- very good English and possibly German language skills
- social and communication competence
