Call for one Research Scholarships within the scope of the project VESTA (Vegetation Evaluation with Satellite Technology and Analytics)

Job description:

The Institute of Systems and Robotics – University of Coimbra (ISR-UC) opens the call for applications for one (1) Research Fellowship for Masters/MEng/MSc in the scope of the project: VESTA – “Vegetation Evaluation with Satellite Technology and Analytics”.

Admission requirements: Master’s degree in electrical and Computer Engineering, Computer Eng., Automation Eng., Mathematics, Physical Eng., or related areas. Candidates are expected to be enrolled in a doctoral program in the University of Coimbra, Portugal. Applicants with academic degrees obtained abroad will be required to present a Certificate of Recognition in accordance with the Portuguese applicable law.

Work Plan: development and implementation of algorithms and techniques related to satellite imagery processing using AI applied to object-of-interest detection, identification, prediction, parameter estimation. The selected candidate will participate in the dissemination actions.

Selection criteria:

a) Curricular Evaluation

Criterion 1. Absolute merit of the candidate, considering his/her performance in the master’s and bachelor’s degree, or integrated master’s degree (50%);

Criterion 2. knowledge and experience for the project, including (but not limited to), ML/AI techniques, deep learning, probabilistic inference, image processing, system integration, Python programming skills, remote sensing (50%);

b) Interview (should it occur)

Criterion 1. Project fit: attitude, communication skills, motivation to work on the project (50%);

Criterion 2. Scientific fit: knowledge and competence on key tech-scientific aspects (50%).

Benefits:

Monthly maintenance allowance amount: The scholarship amount corresponds to € 1,259.64, according to the table of scholarship values directly attributed by FCT, I.P. in the country (https://www.fct.pt/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/Tabela-de-Valores-SMM_atualizacao-2024.pdf ).

Duration of the scholarship: The scholarship will have a duration of 6 months, on an exclusive basis, in accordance with FCT’s regulation of advanced training of human resources. The fellowship will be eventually renewable
