The German Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases (DZNE) is a world-leading internationally oriented research center, committed to discovering new approaches to prevent and treat neurodegenerative diseases. To this end, researchers at ten DZNE sites across Germany pursue a translational and interdisciplinary strategy comprising five interconnected areas: fundamental research, clinical research, health care research, population health science, and systems medicine. The DZNE in Bonn advertises a position as PhD candidate with a focus on disease mechanisms of self-templating protein aggregates.
Duties of the position
The appointee will be expected to study cellular mechanisms of protein misfolding and intercellular spreading of pathologic protein aggregates associated with neurodegenerative diseases, perform biochemical and cell biological analyses and use state-of-the-art technology such as automated image-based high content screening.
Required selection criteria
Applicants should possess a Master in cell biology or related fields, a good level in English, have excellent practical and theoretical skills and a strong interest in cell biological aspects of neurodegenerative diseases and be able to work independently and have excellent team working skills. Experience in research on neurodegenerative diseases, virology, cell-based screening assays and/or image analysis would be an advantage.
