Job Description:

The University of Coimbra opens a call for the allocation of a research grant, with one(s) position(s), within the framework of the project JPND/0001/2022 NEURODIET – Molecular mechanisms of nutritional interventions in neurodegeneration (PT001).

The call is governed by this Opening Notice, by the Regulations for Research Grants of the University of Coimbra (RBI-UC), subsidiarily by the Regulations for Research Grants of the Foundation for Science and Technology (RBI-FCT), by the Statute of the Associate Researcher (EBI), by the Rules for the Allocation and Management of Grants in R&D Projects, by the Administrative Procedure Code (CPA), all of them in their current wording, and by the rest of the applicable national and community legislation.

Requirements:

I – Legal admission requirements
Master’s degree holders in the scientific field of Biomedicine, Pharmaceutical Sciences or related areas.
I.I – Scholarship recipients:
Students enrolled in a doctorate in the scientific field of Biomedicine, Pharmaceutical Sciences or related areas. 
OR
Master’s degree holders in the scientific field of Biomedicine, Pharmaceutical Sciences or related areas, enrolled in a non-degree programme.
Candidates must have authorisation certified by the DGAV to handle and carry out research with laboratory animals.

I.II – The non-degree programme must be related to the type of activity that is the subject of the scholarship.

Non-degree courses are considered to be those referred to in section e) of article 4.3 of Decree-Law No. 74/2006, in its current wording, provided that, pursuant to section e) of article 3 of the RBI-FCT, they are developed in association or cooperation between the higher education institution and one or more R&D units.

I.III – Ineligible candidates: 
Candidates enrolled in non-degree courses who have already benefited from a scholarship contract and who, with this scholarship allocation, including any renewals, exceed a total accumulated period of two consecutive or non-consecutive years on this type of scholarship.
Candidates who have already benefited from two research scholarship contracts with the UC on the condition of being enrolled in a doctorate, regardless of whether each contract has reached the maximum legally permitted duration.  

I.IV – Eligible for the allocation of the grant if they meet the requirements: 
a) Portuguese nationals or nationals of other EU Member States
b) Third-country nationals
c) Stateless persons
d) Beneficiaries of political refugee status
When the work plan is developed, totally or partially, in foreign institutions, only candidates who can demonstrate permanent and habitual residence in Portugal at the start of the grant will be eligible. 

II – Grant location: Center for Neuroscience and Cellular Biology, University of Coimbra, Portugal

III – Scientific supervision/grant coordination: Luís Fernando Morgado Pereira de Almeida, Cláudia Margarida Gonçalves Cavadas, and Dina Maria da Silva Rodrigues Pereira

IV – Work plan/Objectives to be achieved: The selected candidate will develop research activities for the project aiming to evaluate the impact of different diets on experimental rodent models and model cells of Machado-Joseph disease (SCA3/MJD). The candidate will also participate in scientific communication activities planned throughout the project. Tasks include: 1. Organization and implementation of experimental protocols with laboratory animals; 2. Neuropathological, biochemical and behavioral assessments; 3. Cell culture and evaluation of cellular and molecular parameters; 4. Participation in and organization of data analysis and reporting; 5. Participation in meetings of the national team and international consortium; 6. Organization and participation in scientific communication activities with different audiences, as provided for in the project.

Monthly amount of the grant (paid by bank transfer at the end of each month): €1,309.64
