The European University Institute (EUI) offers four-year fully-funded PhD programmes in Economics, History, Law and Political and Social Sciences. Up to 130 scholarships are available for entry in September 2026, covering tuition and providing a monthly grant.

Our well-structured PhD programmes include closely supervised dissertation work, courses on methods and theory, topical workshops, as well as academic and professional development training.

About the EUI 

Located in the scenic hills of Fiesole overlooking Florence, the EUI hosts a diverse and international academic community. Over 1,000 scholars of more than 100 nationalities pursue their training, research and work here. Their diverse backgrounds stimulate lively debate and the sharing of knowledge.

Our facilities include a world-class social sciences research library with extensive multilingual collections and services to support advanced research, as well as exclusive access to the Historical Archives of the European Union.

Grants and tuition fees for PhD candidates are covered by the national grant-awarding authorities of our contracting states.
