The Faculty of Medicine, Department of Clinical Science, is offering a full-time PhD-position for a duration of three (3) years). The position is part of: The research project on premature ovarian insufficiency in young women under the Centre for Women’s Health Research – DRIV. The Centre is funded for four years by the University of Bergen, Haukeland University Hospital (Helse Bergen), and the Trond Mohn Foundation.

About the project/work tasks:

Premature ovarian insufficiency (POI) is a condition that affects approximately 3% of women, leading to early menopause (<40 years) with hormonal disturbances and an increased risk of cardiovascular disease, osteoporosis, dementia, and autoimmune disorders. Hormone replacement therapy can alleviate menopausal symptoms, but no treatment currently exists to restore fertility.
The project aims to improve diagnostic precision and treatment of ovarian failure through four work packages:
1. Identification of novel autoantigens and autoantibodies targeting ovarian cells in women with POI.
2. Investigation of how estrogen deficiency contributes to pathogenic mechanisms in autoimmune diseases.
3. Examination of genetic causes of POI.
4. Immunotherapy for autoimmune oophoritis.

Requirements:

  • The applicant must possess a Master’s degree or an equivalent in medicine (Medical Degree)
  • Experience from relevant research projects, clinical trials and clinical work will be considered as positive
  • The candidate must be able to work independently and in a structured manner, and possess good collaboration skills
  • The applicant must exhibit both the ability and motivation to undertake a PhD project.

  • Salary NOK 570 000 (48.917,68 EUR) in the state salary scale. For applicants with at least one year of employment in a position as a General Practitioner or Dentist, salary NOK 585 000/50.203,11 EUR (For applicants who are licensed as medical doctors or dentists, documentation of Norwegian authorization must be submitted with the
    application.). Medical specialist starts on salary NOK 605 000/51.920,19 EUR (For applicants with specialist training, a certificate of specialist approval from the Norwegian Directorate of Health must also be included.)
