PhD – Molecular Medicine – Norway

There is a vacancy for one PhD candidate at The Department of Clinical and Molecular Medicine (Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU)). The PhD candidate will work on childhood dementia CLN3, as part of ongoing research in the Bjørås group.

The current project is aiming at developing novel human models for childhood dementia CLN3 to recapitulate disease progression and explore novel promising gene therapy strategies for preclinical trials.

Requirements

  • Practical experience in molecular biology and cellular biology.
  • Your education must correspond to a five-year Norwegian degree programme, where 120 credits are obtained at master’s level.
  • You must have a strong academic background in molecular or cell biology, from your previous studies, and an average grade from the master’s degree program, or equivalent education, which is equal to B or better compared to NTNU’s grading scale. If you do not have letter grades from previous studies, you must have an equally good academic foundation. If you have a weaker grade background, you maybe considered if you can document that you are particularly suitable for a PhD education.
  • You must meet the requirements for admission to the faculty’s doctoral program (PhD Programme in Medicine and Health Sciences – NTNU).

Preferred selection criteria:

  • Excellent or very good diploma/master’s degree in molecular and cell biology.
  • Experience with culturing 3D brain and retinal organoids.
  • Experience with design and production of AAV virus for gene therapy.
  • Experience in single molecule analysis.
  • Good communications skills.
  • Good written and oral English language skills.

Benefits

In the position of PhD Candidate, code 1017, your gross salary will normally be NOK 550 800 (46 897,0 €),- per annum depending on qualifications and seniority. A 2% statutory contribution to the State Pension Fund is deducted from the salary.

The employment period is 3 years.
