D. Manuel Pleguezuelo Alonso is our “European Person of the Month”. Originally from Albox (Almeria), he has been responsible for blue economy policies in the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries since 2020. He is in charge of regional maritime cooperation in the Western Mediterranean and the outermost regions of the EU and part of the economic analysis team of the blue economy sectors.
He was Director General of Citizen Participation, European Union, External Action and Development Cooperation in the Autonomous Community of the Region of Murcia between April 2014 and August 2019, during which time he was also a member of the European Committee of the Regions.
Since 2012 he has been a consultant for the Public Sector, European Projects and Social Development, and associate professor of Public International Law and EU Law at the University of Murcia. During 2010 and 2014 he was Vice-Dean of the Official College of Political Science and Sociology of the Region of Murcia.
He holds a degree in Law and Political Science and Administration from the University of Murcia. Certificate in Political Studies from the University of Toulouse (France). Specialist in European Union and European Community Policies from the UNED. University Expert in Protocol and Ceremonial by the Miguel Hernández University and University Specialist Consultant on Migration and Solidarity Action by the UCAM.
European Person of the Month
“European Personage of the Month” is a joint activity carried out by all the centres that are part of the European Information Network of Andalusia and whose main objective is to publicise and disseminate through social networks the work of Andalusian citizens who carry out, or have carried out, outstanding and/or commemorative deeds in the EU.
Each month a member of the Network will nominate the person they consider to be the #EuropeanPersonoftheMonth.
