It is with deep sorrow that I mourn the passing of Pope Francis, a guiding light of humility and compassion.
His dedication to fostering unity and understanding among all people has profoundly impacted our communities.
In the early pages of the Bible, we find the story of Babel — a symbol of what happens when human ambition outpaces humility. The people, unified in language but driven by pride, attempt to build a tower to the heavens — a project of pure hierarchy and control. But without a foundation rooted in shared meaning, responsibility, and truth, the structure collapses into confusion and fragmentation. This tale is not merely about divine punishment, but a warning: when we strive for greatness without grounding ourselves in service, cooperation, and humility, we invite chaos.
Pope Francis often emphasized that in building our cities, we should not aim for lofty heights but rather focus on the humble, daily commitment to inclusivity and community. As he wisely stated, “It is not a question of further raising the tower, but of widening the square, of making space, of giving each person the possibility of fulfilling themselves and their family and of opening themselves to communion with others.”
Let us honor his legacy by embracing these principles, working together to create spaces where every individual can thrive and connect with one another in harmony.
