NATO Headquarters organises an internship programme to provide a small number of current or recent students with the opportunity to gain experience at NATO Headquarters in Brussels. Internships cover a wide range of knowledge and skills, offering opportunities in areas such as political affairs, defence and security, innovation, operations, communications, business support and human resources, finance, science and technology, and infrastructure and facilities.
There is an annual call for applications in the spring, with two start dates: September and March of the following year. Internships generally last between 6 and 8 months.
Internships are offered inNATO Divisions.
Main objectives of the NATO Internship Programme
- To provide interns with the opportunity to learn from the NATO community and gain a better understanding and more balanced view of the Organisation.
- To enhance NATO’s access to theoretical and technical knowledge that the intern can apply through practical tasks.
- To contribute to the creation of a more diverse workforce.
- To broaden knowledge and understanding of NATO in member countries.
The NATO Internship Programme offers internship positions within theNATO International Staff,theInternational Military Staff, and some ofNATO’sagenciesand bodies at NATO Headquarters.
Requirements:
- Be over 21 years of age at the time of the internship (for insurance purposes).
- Be anational of aNATO member state.
- At least two years of university studies or equivalent and enrolled in your third year or higher degree less than one year ago.
- Proficiency in one of NATO’s official languages (English/French); working knowledge of the other is desirable.
- Interns must have medical insurance coverage and complete the necessary formalities with the Belgian authorities related to their stay in Belgium.
All interns will need security clearance from their national authorities before working at NATO.
Benefits:
- Monthly stipend of EUR 1,286. The salary is not tax-exempt. Travel expenses are reimbursed.
