The European Endowment for Democracy (EED) is a grant-making organisation based in Brussels.
Its aim is to provide flexible support to democracy activists, complementing other democracy support programmes run by the EU and its Member States. The EED offers context-specific and needs-based support, based on the principle of promoting democracy and facilitating initiatives by local actors. Its geographical scope covers the European neighbourhood and beyond.
EED is seeking an intern for a twelve-month placement in grant management (in Arabic). The intern will assist with the contractual, financial and administrative aspects of EED’s grant management. Fluency in English and Arabic is required.
Start date: 1 September 2026, duration: one year
Responsibilities
- Assist in the preparation of grant agreements, annexes and other standard contractual documentation;
- Assist in the review of financial reports (including detailed verification of invoices and other financial supporting documents) to ensure compliance with EED requirements and draft comments for beneficiaries, as well as internal memos;
- Translate short texts from your native language into English and vice versa;
- Update the database and maintain the archive;
- Provide support with other administrative tasks for the grants team.
Requirements
- Knowledge of the grant cycle, experience in administrative work and the detailed assessment of financial reports will be considered an advantage.
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel is required.
- Great attention to detail and precision.
- Fluency in Arabic as well as English.
- EED requires all trainees to be under 30 years of age. Citizenship of an EU Member State or residence in the European Union is preferred, but not mandatory.
Benefits
The monthly remuneration is €2,333.62 gross, plus 20 additional public holidays and reimbursement of a monthly Brussels public transport pass.
The contractual relationship with the trainee will be governed by a Professional Immersion Agreement (an agreement under Belgian law) without social security contributions.
