The institute invites applications of the position of a Postdoctoral Fellow in extragalactic astronomy. Stockholm University has access to a range of facilities including ESO, LSST, and NOT membership, and the Galaxies group leads several major research campaigns with the Hubble Space Telescope and ESO/VLT.
The Department of Astronomy at Stockholm University has around 80 employees. The main research areas are Galaxies, Supernovae, Computational astrophysics, Solar physics, and Planet and star formation.
Project description
The position will be to work on spectroscopy of a large sample of galaxies in the early universe, and is coupled to a recently-awarded ‘Large Programme’ with ESO/VLT.
Main responsabilities
The position involves reduction and analysis of optical spectra obtained from the FLAMES instrument at VLT.
Requirements
Postdoctoral positions are appointed primarily for purposes of research. Applicants are expected to hold a Swedish doctoral degree or an equivalent degree from another country.
The degree should have been completed no more than three years before the deadline for applications. An older degree may be acceptable under special circumstances, which may involve sick leave, parental leave, clinical attachment, elected positions in trade unions, or similar.
In the appointment process, special attention will be given to research skills. Expertise with optical multi-object spectrographs will be a strong advantage.
