Agentic AI is an emerging technology that fundamentally changes product development and evolution. They seek to study the implications of Agentic AI with the intent of accelerating the adoption of the technology in the companies in Software Center.

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering at Chalmers and University of Gothenburg in Sweden with approximately 300 employees from more than 30 countries is widely recognized for excellent research and education. Our department is located in Sweden’s second largest city Gothenburg – the world’s most sustainable destination every year since 2016 according to the Global Destination Sustainability Index.

The research takes place in the context of Software Center, a collaboration between 15 companies and 5 universities around accelerating digitalization (software, data and AI). Specifically, the project is focused on AI agents. Agentic AI is an emerging technology that fundamentally changes product development and evolution. They seek to study the implications of Agentic AI both in products and in the product development process with the intent of accelerating the adoption of the technology in the companies in Software Center.

They seek candidates with the following qualifications:

    • To qualify as a PhD student, you must have a master’s level degree in a relevant field. Equivalent requirements apply to individuals with an education earned outside of Sweden, for example a 4-year bachelor’s degree is accepted.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English

      The following experience will strengthen your application:

    • Experience with industry
    • Experience with AI

What you will do:

    • Take courses at an advanced level within the Graduate school of Computer Science and Engineering
    • Develop your own scientific concepts and communicate the results of your research verbally and in writing
    • The position generally also includes teaching on Chalmers’ undergraduate level or performing other duties corresponding to 20 percent of working hours

Contract terms and what they offer:

    • The PhD position is fully funded from start
    • As a PhD student at Chalmers, you are an employee and enjoy all employee benefits.
    • The position is limited to four years, with the possibility to teach up to 20%, which extends the position to five years.
    • A dynamic and inspiring working environment in the coastal city of Gothenburg.
  • A starting salary of 34,550 SEK (3.184,73 EUR) per month (valid from May 25, 2025).
