About the open PhD position
The Chair of Analytical Food Chemistry at the School of Life Sciences of the Technical University of Munich, Germany, is seeking highly motivated applicants for a PhD scholarship focused on folate bio-accessibility and bioavailablility of foods made from protein-rich plants and algae. You will work across both disciplines, Analytical Food Chemistry and Nutritional Sciences, investigating the potential of protein-rich plants and algae to produce foods rich in highly bioaccessible and bioavailable folate.
Duties
As part of your research, you will
- Enrol in the Graduate Center of Life Sciences as a PhD student and comply with its doctoral training requirements
- Participate actively in the MICROSUNSET training (12 ECTS), dissemination, communication, reporting and exploitation activities.
- Publish and present research results in international conference proceedings and peer-reviewed scientific journals.
- Prepare and defend a doctoral thesis in the field of micronutrients and sustainable food products.
- Support student supervision and contribute to teaching at BSc and MSc levels.
Requirements
You must have a two-year master’s degree in (120 ECTS points) in Food Sciences or a similar degree with an academic level equivalent to a two-year master’s degree.
Furthermore, the ideal candidate has:
- Completed a relevant master’s program
- Hands-on experience with analytical equipment such as HPLC, LC-MS/MS as well as sample preparation approaches and their application to food
- Knowledge about quality assurance of analytical methods
- Good communication skills (written and oral English)
- Experience with international collaboration and the ability to work effectively in interdisciplinary teams.
- A structured and analytical approach to work and problem-solving
Benefits
The EU MSCA grant received by TUM consists of a monthly gross salary of 4768 EUR (before tax).
