The European Commission is organising the EU Civic Tech Hackathon on 22 and 23 June 2026 and invites individuals and organisations with an interest in or experience of civic technology and democratic participation to take part.
Who can take part?
- Developers and designers, civic tech organisations, civil society actors, researchers, start-ups and SMEs, and public authorities.
How the activity works:
Over 48 hours, participants will work collaboratively in teams of five to develop prototypes of civic technology tools, with the support of mentors specialising in technical, political and legal fields. The hackathon follows a co-creation approach, in which participants actively contribute to defining the challenges and developing solutions together. Participants will have the opportunity to test ideas, collaborate with peers from across Europe and contribute to solutions that could be further developed or receive support at EU level.
Benefits:
- Travel and accommodation costs are covered by the Commission.
- The initiative contributes to the development of the future European Civic Tech Hub, a platform designed to connect stakeholders, share knowledge and support the expansion of civic tech solutions across the European Union.
Deadline: 5 June 2026
