This initiative, which covers the whole of Andalusia through the European information points that make up the European Information Network of Andalusia, highlights the impact of the European integration process on the political, social and economic development of Andalusia on the 40th anniversary of Spain’s accession to the European Union. Its aim is to bring this historic milestone closer to the public, reaffirming the commitment of the European Information Network of Andalusia to disseminating and reflecting on the role of Andalusia in Europe, offering citizens a space for knowledge and analysis of forty years of integration, growth and shared transformation.
The exhibition offers a visual and documentary journey that contextualises the key moments of Spain’s accession to the then European Economic Community and its subsequent active participation in the European project. It pays particular attention to the opportunities, advances and challenges that this process has brought to Andalusia, highlighting the role of the European Union as a driving force for territorial transformation, social cohesion and economic modernisation.
After a historical review of the main milestones in the signing and entry into force of the Accession Treaty, the exhibition analyses Spain’s role in forty years of European integration, the evolution of the major treaties and its participation in the institutions of the European Union. It also emphasises the importance of European funds and European territorial cooperation in Andalusia, highlighting our region’s involvement in projects that have contributed to its development, with specific examples in each of the eight provinces. The tour is completed with a space dedicated to the role of the European Committee of the Regions and the growing institutional weight of Andalusia in the European arena. The work of the European Information Network of Andalusia as a bridge between the European Union and the citizens of Andalusia is also highlighted.
