In response to the continued attacks on Ukrainian energy infrastructure, the Commission is increasing its humanitarian funding for vulnerable Ukrainians with an additional €40 million before the winter. Of this amount, €35 million will go to humanitarian projects in Ukraine and €5 million to support Ukrainian refugees and their host communities in Moldova..
The main objective of this funding is to help Ukraine prepare for the rigours of the winter months. Together with its humanitarian partners, the EU aims to repair damaged buildings, ensure electricity supply and heating production and provide shelter for those most in need..
In Moldova, the new funding is targeted at the most vulnerable refugees in order to provide them with protection and access to basic services and to improve preparedness for other refugee influxes.
The intervention is announced as Crisis Management Commissioner Janez Lenarčič attends a regional civil protection forum in Lithuania today, which focuses on mobilising additional support to Ukraine in view of the winter. During his visit, he will meet with Lithuanian Interior Minister Agnė Bilotaitė.
