Los dirigentes de la UE debatirán sobre la ampliación de la UE, Ucrania y la situación económica

European Council, 23-24 June 2022

The European Council will discuss the wider Europe, Ukraine, EU membership applications from Ukraine, the Republic of Moldova and Georgia, economic issues, the Conference on the Future of Europe and external relations.

Ahead of the European Council meeting EU and Western Balkan leaders will meet in the morning of 23 June in Brussels.

Agenda highlights

Wider Europe

The European Council will hold a strategic discussion on the EU’s relations with its partners in Europe, including on how to foster political dialogue and strengthen the security, stability and prosperity of the European continent.

Ukraine

EU leaders will discuss the latest developments in relation to Russia’s war against Ukraine, including its impact on the global food security crisis.

They will also discuss continued EU support to Ukraine, which comprises economic, military, political and humanitarian support.

EU membership applications

The European Council will discuss the membership applications from Ukraine, the Republic of Moldova and Georgia.

Ukraine applied for EU membership on 28 February 2022. Georgia and the Republic of Moldova both applied for EU membership on 3 March 2022.

The European Commission issued its opinion on the countries’ applications on 17 June 2022.

Economic issues

EU leaders will discuss the economic situation and country-specific recommendations, as part of the European Semester 2022.

They will also discuss Croatia’s adoption of the euro, based on its convergence report.

Conference on the Future of Europe

The European Council will discuss the Conference on the Future of Europe, in particular the proposals outlined in the final report that was presented to the Conference’s three co-presidents on 9 May 2022.

The Conference was launched in March 2021, following the signing of a joint declaration which paved the way for a series of debates and discussions that enabled people from every corner of Europe to share their ideas and help shape Europe’s future.

External relations

In the light of events, the European Council may address specific foreign policy issues.

Euro Summit

On 24 June, a Euro Summit will take place in inclusive format.
